Pitso Mosimane returns to lead Bafana Bafana in new era
A familiar face is back at the helm of South African football, with Pitso Mosimane returning to Bafana Bafana for a second stint after SAFA officially confirmed his appointment.
South African football has entered a new chapter with the return of one of its most recognisable coaches.
Pitso Mosimane has been confirmed as the new head coach of Bafana Bafana, bringing him back to the national team for a second spell.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the South African Football Association’s headquarters in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg, on Tuesday morning.
Mosimane succeeds Hugo Broos, who recently stepped down after leading the national side.
His appointment had already received the backing of SAFA’s National Executive Committee during an Extraordinary Meeting at SAFA House on Saturday, 8 August 2026.
SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan confirmed that the NEC had approved Mosimane’s return.
The appointment represents a return to familiar territory for Mosimane, who first took charge of Bafana Bafana in 2010 after Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira’s departure.
His first stint lasted until 2012.
More than a decade later, Mosimane returns with considerable experience accumulated both at home and across the continent, setting the stage for another chapter in his relationship with South African football.
Attention will now turn to how the new-look Bafana Bafana responds under Mosimane, with the coach expected to bring his experience, tactical approach and winning mentality to the national setup.
