North West woman arrested after alleged boiling water attack leaves victim with severe burns

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested for attempted murder after allegedly pouring boiling water over another woman during an argument in Pholarpark, Rosendal, in North West.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, 31 July 2026, prompting members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Huhudi to respond to a complaint at the scene.

In a statement on Saturday, the police said that officers found the 32-year-old victim with severe burn injuries to her upper body. She was reportedly in extreme pain and unable to speak when police arrived.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were immediately summoned, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was admitted for medical treatment.

Police arrested the suspect, who is expected to make her first appearance in the Vryburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, 3 August 2026, on a charge of attempted murder.

North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Adams condemned the alleged attack, saying violence can never be justified as a means of resolving conflict.

He urged community members to settle disputes peacefully, stressing that no disagreement warrants an act that places another person's life in danger.

Adams also commended the swift response by police officers, reaffirming SAPS' commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought before the courts to face the full might of the law.
