Johannesburg authorities have closed the N1 South highway following a tanker crash after the Maraisburg exit. The tanker was carrying paraffin, and diesel is reported to be leaking from the vehicle.
All lanes on the N1 South after Albertina Sisulu Road are closed while emergency services and law enforcement officials work to secure the scene. Traffic is being diverted at Albertina Sisulu Road.
Motorists should expect significant delays on the N1 South as well as on alternative routes. Authorities advise drivers to use Gordon Road or Ontdekkers Road to avoid the affected area.
Emergency services are on site to contain the diesel spill and clear the highway. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is monitoring the situation and coordinating with other agencies to restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
Superintendent Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD, urged all road users to remain patient and follow the instructions of law enforcement officers on site.
