Mugabe’s son fined R600,000, faces deportation after Hyde Park shooting case
The Alexandra Magistrate’s Court has handed down sentences to Bellarmine Mugabe and his cousin following a February shooting incident in Johannesburg.
The Alexandra Magistrate's Court has fined Bellarmine Mugabe, son of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, R600,000 or two years’ imprisonment for violations of South Africa’s firearm and immigration laws.
In addition to the fine, the court ordered Mugabe’s immediate deportation. His cousin, Tobias Matonhodze, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and will also be deported.
The pair appeared in court on Wednesday in connection with a February shooting incident at the Mugabe family’s residence in Hyde Park. According to court proceedings, the victim was shot twice in the back during the incident.
Mugabe and Matonhodze confirmed they paid the victim R250,000 in cash and promised a further R150,000 as compensation.
