The defence lawyer for Victor Majola, accused in the murder of popular DJ Warras, says there is a “very good chance” his client could be granted bail. Majola appeared in court ahead of bail proceedings amid intense public interest in the case that has shaken the community.
The defence lawyer for Victor Majola says there is a “very good chance” his client will be granted bail when the court considers the application.
Majola is charged with the murder of well-known Johannesburg DJ Warras. He appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday ahead of formal bail proceedings. His legal team argued that there are compelling reasons for the court to allow him to be released from custody while awaiting trial.
In court papers and submissions to the magistrate, the defence highlighted Majola’s ties to the community, a lack of previous convictions, and assurances that he will adhere to bail conditions if granted. The lawyer said these factors, taken together with the evidence uncovered so far, make a strong case for bail.
The murder of DJ Warras, who was widely known in the music and events scene, has drawn significant media and public attention. Police allege Majola’s involvement in the fatal shooting, which sent shockwaves through the local entertainment community.
The State, however, is expected to oppose bail on the basis that Majola may pose a flight risk or interfere with witnesses if released. Prosecutors typically cite the seriousness of the offence and potential risk to the administration of justice when contesting bail in high-profile murder cases
