Police in Mpumalanga have launched an inquiry after 10 Buscor buses were destroyed in a fire at a depot in Barberton in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at around 01:00 on Wednesday at a bus depot in Nelspruit.
Police in Mpumalanga have launched an inquiry after 10 Buscor buses were destroyed in a fire at a depot in Barberton in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at around 01:00 on Wednesday at a bus depot in Nelspruit.
According to police, one bus initially caught fire, prompting security personnel at the depot to investigate and alert firefighters. While emergency services were being summoned, the fire spread, engulfing nine additional buses.
In total, 10 buses were affected. Police spokesperson Lt-col Jabu Ndubane said the cause of the fire has not yet been established and police say all possibilities remain under investigation.
Acting provincial police commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, said officers were committed to uncovering what led to the blaze.
"We have taken note of the statement issued by the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport. We will ensure that the established team works diligently, and for now, we cannot rule out any possibilities, " Mkhwanazi said.
