Two family members have been arrested for allegedly poisoning their 30-year-old male relative at Lemondokop Village last Tuesday. The suspects are expected to appear before the Kgapane Magistrate’s court on Tuesday facing charges of murder. Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Gen Jan Scheepers, has condemned the incident, describing it as deeply disturbing. “It is heartbreaking to witness such acts of violence committed within families,” he said. According to police preliminary reports, the deceased had been complaining of severe stomach pains and dizziness before his death. Police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said he later lost consciousness and was declared dead inside an ambulance while being transported to the local hospital for medical treatment. “Members of the community, who were dissatisfied with the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, reported their suspicions to the police on Friday.
A case of inquest was initially opened while detectives commenced with a thorough investigation,” he said. During investigations, it was uncovered that the deceased’s uncle, 38 and grandmother,82 had allegedly poisoned him. Ledwaba said both suspects were subsequently traced and arrested. “The inquest docket has since been amended to a case of murder, and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” he said. Scheepers has commended detectives for their swift and meticulous work that led to the arrest of the suspects. “We also appreciate the community for promptly reporting the matter to the police and not resorting to violence,” said Scheepers.
