GCIS appoints Lloyd Nedohe as new Director-General
The Government Communication and Information System has welcomed the appointment of Milingoni Fhulufhelo Lloyd Nedohe as its new Director-General, with his tenure officially beginning on 1 November 2026 amid growing challenges around misinformation and public trust.
The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) has appointed Milingoni Fhulufhelo Lloyd Nedohe as its new Director-General following Cabinet approval, with the appointment taking effect on Sunday, 1 November 2026.
The organisation said the appointment marks an important step in strengthening government communication and improving how citizens access information about government policies, programmes and service delivery.
Nedohe takes over the leadership of an institution responsible for coordinating government communication across national, provincial and local government.
In a statement, GCIS said it was looking forward to his strategic leadership in building a more integrated, responsive and effective communication system that supports government priorities and improves engagement with the public.
His appointment comes at a time when the communication landscape is facing growing pressure from digital transformation, the rapid circulation of misinformation and disinformation, and concerns around public confidence in official information.
GCIS said the new Director-General would be expected to strengthen coordination between government departments and different spheres of government, while deepening relationships with media organisations and other communication stakeholders.
Particular emphasis will also be placed on partnerships with community media, which play an important role in reaching communities with information relevant to their daily lives.
Access to credible, accurate and timely information remains central to the organisation’s mandate, especially as government seeks to ensure that communication is inclusive and accessible to all South Africans.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to working with government institutions, the media and broader society to respond to the information needs of communities.
GCIS congratulated Nedohe on his appointment and wished him success as he assumes responsibility for advancing the organisation’s mandate.
