Bus crash near Beitbridge claims driver's life, injures 11 passengers
A bus travelling from KwaZulu-Natal to the Beitbridge Repatriation Camp overturned on the N1 near Musina, leaving the driver dead and 11 passengers injured.
A bus travelling from KwaZulu-Natal to the Beitbridge Repatriation Camp overturned on the N1 near Musina in Limpopo, killing the driver and injuring 11 passengers.
In a statement the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said that the crash occurred approximately four kilometres south of the Beitbridge Border Post on Wednesday morning.
Preliminary reports indicate that the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue, causing the bus to overturn.
The driver was declared dead at the scene, while the injured passengers were transported to Musina Hospital for medical treatment.
Emergency services, law enforcement agencies and traffic officials remain at the scene managing the incident and assisting affected motorists.
The department said the N1 remains open to traffic, although temporary road closures may be implemented to allow forensic investigators to conduct their work safely. Motorists have been warned to expect delays.
The department have urged drivers travelling along the route to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, maintain a safe following distance and obey the instructions of traffic officials.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said it will continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates as more information becomes available.
