Arrest warrant issued for Mapisa-Nqakula after court absence
Former Defence Minister and former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula failed to appear in the Pretoria High Court on Friday for the continuation of her corruption and money-laundering trial, prompting the court to issue a warrant for her arrest.
A warrant of arrest has been issued for former Defence Minister and former Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula after she failed to appear in the Pretoria High Court on Friday.
Mapisa-Nqakula was expected to return to court for the continuation of her corruption and money-laundering trial.
Proceedings were cut short on Thursday after Mapisa-Nqakula reportedly took ill. The court had previously insisted that she provide a medical certificate to substantiate her condition.
The matter was postponed to 11 November.
Mapisa-Nqakula is currently under cross-examination by the State in the trial.
She faces 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering, relating to her tenure as Defence Minister between 2014 and 2021.
The State alleges that she received approximately R4 million in corrupt payments from a military contractor during her time as Defence Minister.
