Advocate Ntuthuzelo Vanara sworn in as acting head of IDAC

Advocate Ntuthuzelo Vanara was officially sworn in as the Acting Head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) at the Pretoria High Court on Monday.

The oath of office was administered by Gauteng Division Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba.

Vanara takes up the position in an acting capacity with immediate effect and will lead the directorate until a permanent head is appointed.

Following his swearing-in, Vanara met with the IDAC team during an official handover and welcome session led by National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andy Mothibi.

Mothibi introduced Vanara to IDAC's executive leadership and operational staff and emphasised the important role the directorate plays in restoring public confidence in the fight against corruption.

He also reiterated the National Prosecuting Authority's commitment to supporting IDAC's investigative and prosecutorial mandate.

Vanara brings more than 25 years of experience in law, governance and regulatory affairs across state institutions, state-owned entities, Parliament and other highly regulated environments.

Before joining IDAC, he served as Chief Legal Counsel at the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), where he provided strategic leadership in civil litigation and asset recovery, corporate legal services, legal support for investigations and compliance management.

He also previously served as Group Executive for Legal, Governance and Regulatory Affairs at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and held senior leadership positions at Parliament.

Vanara holds a B Proc degree from Vista University, as well as LLB and LLM qualifications from the University of the Free State.

He joins IDAC on secondment and assumes responsibility for the directorate at a time when the country's anti-corruption institutions remain under intense public scrutiny.
