Two arrested with R130,000 worth of explosives in Nelspruit
An intelligence-driven operation has led to the arrest of two men after police allegedly found explosives worth about R130,000 at a lodge in Nelspruit.
Two men have been arrested after the Hawks allegedly found explosives valued at approximately R130,000 during an intelligence-driven operation in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
The arrests were made on Friday at a lodge along the R40. The suspects include a 37-year-old undocumented foreign national and a 36-year-old South African man.
Police recovered 50 electric detonators, 80 blasting cartridges and 32 connector cords. Two cellphones were also seized during the operation.
A Hyundai i20, believed to have been used by the suspects, was confiscated.
The two men are expected to face charges under the Explosives Act and Immigration Act when they appear before the Nelspruit Magistrates' Court.
