The City of Tshwane has started disinfecting water tankers supplying Bronkhorstspruit and surrounding communities as part of efforts to address water quality concerns and restore public confidence in its water distribution services.
In a notice issued on Thursday, 22 October 2026, the city said the disinfection process was underway to ensure tanker water meets safety standards.
The city is also sharing photographs and updates of the disinfection process on its social media platforms to keep residents informed about the measures being taken.
Meanwhile, strict water-use restrictions remain in place across Bronkhorstspruit Town, Zithobeni, Ekangala, Rethabiseng, Ekandustria, Riamapark, Bester and Cultura, Masada Dark City, and Sokhulumi.
Residents have been instructed to use tap water only for flushing toilets until the city officially confirms that the water is safe.
The restrictions prohibit the use of tap water for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, bathing, washing clothes, and cleaning fruit and vegetables.
The city said it was working with Rand Water to improve the treatment process, resolve water quality problems and stabilise supply at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works.
These interventions are intended to restore a reliable and safe water supply to Bronkhorstspruit and surrounding areas.
Residents have been urged to monitor the city's official social media channels for further updates on tanker disinfection and improvements to water quality.
The city said protecting public health remained a priority as efforts to address the water concerns continued.
