Three killed in N12 crash amid suspected taxi violence in Daveyton
Authorities investigate claims the minibus was shot at before veering off the road, leaving multiple others injured.
Three people have died and at least 12 others were injured following a tragic crash involving a minibus taxi on the N12 bridge near Laris Street in Daveyton on Tuesday morning.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services, emergency teams responded to the scene shortly after 06:00, where they found the taxi had left the roadway and landed in a ditch.
Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have been shot at before the crash, raising suspicions of taxi-related violence. Officials have cautioned that this information is still under investigation.
Paramedics declared three occupants dead at the scene. Eight others sustained moderate injuries, while four were seriously hurt. All injured passengers were stabilised on site before being transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment by Gauteng Provincial Emergency Services.
Law enforcement agencies, including the South African Police Service and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department, are currently on scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area or proceed with caution as emergency operations continue.
The City of Ekurhuleni has extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
