Tembisa Hospital corruption accused doctor granted R200,000 bail
A 37-year-old doctor accused of being involved in an alleged multimillion-rand tender fraud scheme at Tembisa Hospital has been granted R200,000 bail.
Stefan Joel Govindraju, 37, who is allegedly linked to a multimillion-rand corruption and tender fraud scheme at Tembisa Hospital, has been granted R200,000 bail.
Govindraju appeared before the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on Monday, where he was granted bail as he faces charges of fraud and money laundering.
The doctor was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after returning to South Africa from abroad.
He is accused of colluding with officials from the Gauteng Department of Health to allegedly manipulate procurement processes linked to tenders at Tembisa Hospital.
The allegations form part of an investigation into suspected large-scale corruption involving procurement at the hospital.
Govindraju's arrest adds to the growing list of individuals implicated in the alleged multimillion-rand tender irregularities.
The matter has been postponed for further investigation and court proceedings, with the conditions of Govindraju's bail expected to apply as the case progresses.
