RTMC warns motorists about R450 driver’s licence renewal scam
The Road Traffic Management Corporation has warned the public against scammers demanding up to R450 to supposedly assist motorists with vehicle licence renewal applications, stressing that no fee is charged to access its services.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has issued a warning to members of the public about scammers claiming to offer assistance with vehicle licence renewal applications in exchange for payment.
In a statement on Sunday RTMC said that the scammers allegedly approach applicants and claim they can facilitate the application process for fees of up to R450.
The corporation has urged motorists not to fall victim to the scheme, stressing that there is no application fee required to access its services.
“The RTMC would like to reassure the public that there is no application fee payable to access any of its services,” the corporation said.
Members of the public have been advised to reject any offers of assistance that are linked to payment.
The RTMC has also encouraged people who encounter suspected scammers to report the matter to the police or the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit.

The warning comes amid ongoing concerns about fraudsters exploiting motorists seeking assistance with traffic-related administrative services.
