R684,000 crystal meth haul seized in Bloemfontein drug bust

A 37-year-old foreign national has been arrested after police seized suspected drugs with an estimated street value of more than R684,000 during an Operation Shanela II operation in the Bloemfontein CBD.

Members of the Tactical Response Team in Parkweg acted on a tip-off about alleged drug dealing at a unit at the Boulevard Flats in Gordon Street.

Police said the information was swiftly operationalised, with officers tactically approaching the identified premises before conducting a search.

During the search, officers allegedly found several quantities of suspected crystal meth, including a large transparent plastic bag containing 955 grams, another large bag containing 540 grams, and five medium-sized plastic bags containing a combined 450 grams.

Police also seized 105 grams of Tik packed in 21 small zip-lock containers, 10 pieces of rock weighing 15 grams and two Mandrax tablets.

The suspected drugs were found inside a closet and were seized by police.

Cash believed to be the proceeds of alleged drug sales was also confiscated.

The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated at R684,326.50.

A case of possession and dealing in drugs has been opened at Parkweg Police Station.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
