R16 Million Emfuleni Fleet Tender: Supplier arrested after only 7 of 18 vehicles delivered
A 40-year-old supplier has been arrested in connection with an alleged R16 million Emfuleni Local Municipality fleet tender after investigators found that only seven of the 18 contracted vehicles were delivered.
The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has arrested a supplier linked to an investigation into a R16 million fleet tender awarded by the Emfuleni Local Municipality.
The 40-year-old suspect was arrested at a mall in Pretoria on Thursday afternoon following an investigation into the controversial municipal contract.
According to police, the supplier had been contracted to deliver 18 vehicles, including municipal trucks, but only seven vehicles were ultimately delivered to the municipality.
The suspect is facing charges of corruption, fraud and theft and is expected to appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 7.
The latest arrest adds another layer to the widening investigation into alleged corruption involving Emfuleni Municipality.
Police said the arrest follows that of the municipality's former fleet manager, who is currently out on bail in connection with the same investigation.
The case forms part of ongoing investigations by the Gauteng PKTT into alleged corruption and criminal activities involving municipal resources and procurement processes.
