Limpopo police arrest suspect in double murder of Zimbabwean businessman and friend

A 56-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Zimbabwean businessman and his friend, whose bodies were discovered outside Polokwane nearly a year ago.

Limpopo police's Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit arrested the suspect in Diepkloof, Gauteng, following an extensive investigation into the double murder that occurred in August 2025.

Police said the victims, a 37-year-old Zimbabwean businessman and his 27-year-old friend, had travelled to Dendron on 17 August 2025 to buy stock, including liquor and live chickens.

While travelling along the R521 towards Marowe village, the pair were allegedly kidnapped by four men driving a white Toyota Avanza.

Their bakkie, loaded with the purchased goods, was later found abandoned in Ga-Semenya village near Polokwane.

The following day, the victims' bodies were discovered with gunshot wounds along a gravel road next to the R37 under the Westenburg policing area.

A double murder case was opened at Westenburg Police Station before being transferred to the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit for further investigation.

After months of investigation, detectives traced and arrested the suspect in Gauteng. He is facing two counts of murder.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday, 27 July, while police continue searching for other suspects believed to be involved in the killings.
