Suspended Ekurhuleni EMPD Chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi’s appearance before the Madlanga Commission has been delayed after passing of his mother.
Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Chief, Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi, will no longer appear before the Madlanga Commission as previously scheduled after the passing of his mother.
Mkhwanazi had been expected to resume his testimony on Monday, 23 March, but proceedings have been postponed to allow him time to attend to funeral arrangements and family obligations.
Evidence leader Advocate Mahlape Sello told the commission that it was appropriate to grant Mkhwanazi space during this period of mourning. He added that the commission also recognised that cultural and family rituals following the funeral would need to be observed.
Mkhwanazi is now expected to return to the witness stand on 14 April.
