Four arrested as police seize illegal firearms and ammunition in Cape Town

Four suspects have been arrested following separate police operations that resulted in the recovery of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Cape Town on Friday.

Three suspects, aged between 20 and 25, were arrested in Scottsdene, Kraaifontein, during an intelligence-driven operation by members of Operation Prosper.

Police were searching for suspects linked to a shooting incident on 27 August when they searched an identified property and allegedly found a 9mm pistol loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.

The three suspects were arrested and face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They are expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates' Court once formally charged.

In an unrelated incident, members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling Hardekoel Street in Delft South when they spotted a man who allegedly attempted to evade them after noticing the police.

Officers gave chase and apprehended the suspect. A search allegedly led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition.

The man was unable to produce a licence for the firearm and was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates' Court once charged.

The arrests form part of ongoing crime prevention efforts aimed at tackling gang violence and removing illegal firearms from the hands of criminals.
