DJ Kwame drops new afrotech single ‘Thumela Incwadi’
Rising Afrotech DJ and producer Kwame blends soulful storytelling with rich soundscapes in his latest single, celebrating love, family, and tradition.
DJ Kwame has released a new single titled Thumela Incwadi, marking another milestone in his evolving music career. The track features vocalist and songwriter Bonolo Madlongolwane and is already gaining attention for its emotional depth and cultural resonance.
Born Kwame Nkrumah Mahlanga in Ivory Park, Midrand, Johannesburg the artist’s passion for music was sparked early in life through his father’s extensive music collection. After completing matric in 2010, he pursued a Diploma in Radio Practitioner, laying the foundation for both his broadcasting and music careers.
Kwame’s sound is rooted in Afrotech, a genre he uses to fuse diverse musical influences into a distinctive style characterised by layered beats and smooth vocals. His latest single, Thumela Incwadi, draws inspiration from the bond between parents and their children, telling a heartfelt story about love, respect, and seeking familial approval.
Described as a modern South African love story, the song reflects the emotional journey of asking for a partner’s hand in marriage. Madlongolwane’s vocals add warmth and sincerity, enhancing the track’s message of vulnerability and hope.
Kwame credits his early exposure to house music to popular compilations by DJ Fresh, as well as influences from industry figures such as Oskido and the late Fana Khaba. Over the years, he has honed his craft, performing across South Africa and in neighbouring countries including Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana.
In addition to his music career, Kwame has built a strong presence in radio. He began at Hillbrow Community Radio before joining Kaya FM, where he currently works as a producer on several programmes.
His musical journey includes the release of his House Davotions mixtape series in 2015, followed by an EP in 2020 featuring collaborations with artists like Mthandazo Gatya. These projects have helped solidify his place in the local music scene.
Thumela Incwadi is now available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
Looking ahead, Kwame aims to continue creating music that celebrates meaningful connections and plans to take his work to both African and international audiences, while performing live to share his message of love and devotion.
